About one year ago we began the important work of upgrading the main winch that is used to haul boats up our marine railway. The old one had broken and was not repairable. The haulout had to be finished by hiring Loyalist towing with their large wrecker truck to provide the winch. Fortunately we had on hand the winch that had previously been in use at the RKYC. It also was in need of work but it was serviceable. Rick took this on and over the next several months did the required upgrades and repairs that lead to the installation.

The old winch required the operator to have one foot on the ground, one foot on the brake, one hand on the dog stop lever, and one hand on the clutch. It was a difficult skill to carry out safely.

The new winch has a simple two button switch on a cable with an up button and a down button.

Launch in the spring and haul out in the fall went very smoothly.
